Bill Kohler is Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for DURA Automotive Systems LLC. In this role, he is responsible for leading the company’s legal affairs, including corporate governance, commercial transactions, government relations, regulatory compliance and intellectual property matters. Bill also serves as the principal legal contact for treasury and finance issues across the enterprise.
Bill brings a wealth of senior legal and automotive industry experience to DURA’s Executive Leadership Team. Prior to joining DURA, Bill was a partner in the prominent law firm Clark Hill, PLC, where he was Co-Chair of the firm’s Automotive & Manufacturing Industry Group, as well as a member of the Corporate Practice Group, adjunct member of the Intellectual Property Group, and adjunct member of the International Trade Law Group. Prior to these positions, Bill was a partner in Butzel Long, PLC, where he was Co-Chair of the firm’s Global Automotive & Manufacturing Practice Group and a member of the Corporate Practice Group. From 2000-2006 he was Vice President and General Counsel for the North and South American automotive operations of Johnson Controls, with responsibility for the business unit’s legal, governmental and environmental affairs. Bill began his automotive focus with Chrysler Corporation as Senior Counsel, International Affairs in 1990 and advanced through positions of increasing responsibility, including Mergers, Acquisitions and Divestitures within the company’s Treasurer’s Office, and business planning and competitive financial analysis within the company’s Finance Department.
Bill received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, his BA in Economics from the Honors College of the University of Michigan, and his MBA from Michigan State University.
